Three Copilot capabilities in Business Central help finance teams reconcile bank statements, draft purchase invoices and predict late payments.
| Month-end close should be a review exercise. For many Indian finance teams, it is still a data-entry exercise.
Bank statements across NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, UPI and cheques are reconciled line by line. Vendor invoices pile up in a shared inbox ahead of GST reconciliation. The collections forecast depends on who the team thinks will pay late.
Microsoft has built AI into Dynamics 365 Business Central to take on the repetitive part of this work. This post covers three finance capabilities, what each one actually does, and what your team still owns. If you are weighing Copilot for your finance function, this is the practical view.
Indian companies often run several payment rails at once, each with its own settlement timing and statement format. Bank narrations are frequently truncated or inconsistent. That is why so many lines end up unmatched after the standard automatic matching runs.
Bank Reconciliation Assist is designed to supplement that automatic matching, not replace it. After the standard rules run, Copilot proposes matches for the remaining bank statement lines. For transactions with no ledger entry yet, such as bank charges or other items nobody has booked, it reads the narration and suggests a general ledger account to post to.
A few practical points:
The result is that senior accountants spend less time matching lines and more time reviewing exceptions, which is also where audit-quality controls come from.
The Payables Agent has been generally available since Business Central’s 2026 release wave 1, and it is one of the most talked-about additions for finance teams.
In practice it works like this. Vendor invoices arrive by email as PDF attachments. The agent reads them, identifies the vendor and the relevant accounts, and prepares a draft purchase invoice for your team to review. It handles the front end of accounts payable: capture, reading and drafting. People approve and post.
What this means for a finance team:
A few things to plan for. Microsoft validates the agent for English-language correspondence. Your team still reviews and confirms GST and TDS treatment on every invoice, because the agent prepares the draft and does not make tax decisions. And as with all Business Central agents, usage is billed on a consumption basis, so it is worth estimating invoice volumes before you switch it on.
Payment Prediction, delivered through the Late Payment Prediction extension, estimates whether a sales invoice is likely to be paid on time. It is free to enable in Business Central and runs on Azure machine learning rather than Copilot chat.
From a sales quote, order or invoice, users can run a Predict Payment action. A tile on the Business Manager role center lists payments predicted to be late. The extension starts with a standard model trained on data from small and medium-sized businesses. As your own paid and late invoices build up, Business Central evaluates whether that model fits your customers and can train on your data. You can also set a minimum model-quality threshold, and the extension will not enable if quality is too low.
Days Sales Outstanding is usually the biggest lever on cash. As an illustration, a company with ₹10 crore in annual revenue and a DSO of 60 days carries roughly ₹1.64 crore in receivables at any time. Bringing DSO down to 45 days would free roughly ₹41 lakh. Earlier warning about at-risk invoices helps your collections team decide where to follow up first and where credit terms may need a second look.
A caution: predictions are only as good as the payment history behind them, so newer companies with limited data should treat early results as directional.
Copilot assists financial judgment; it does not replace it.
GST classification, TDS applicability, ITC claims and statutory reporting remain with your finance team and tax advisers. That is the right design for an environment where the company, not the software, bears the consequences of incorrect tax treatment.
Indian finance teams are managing month-end close, GST compliance windows, e-invoicing requirements and cash flow all at once. If your close regularly runs past ten working days, or invoice entry is a bottleneck, or your receivables forecast relies on guesswork, these Business Central capabilities are worth evaluating.
